Safety When Riding a Bicycle

Riding a bicycle is on the face of it a very sensible thing to do. It is good for your health, much cheaper than running a car and good for the environment.

However, riding a bicycle can also be dangerous as in any accident with a vehicle the cyclist always comes off worse.

The most important thing to do is to wear a helmet as although this will not prevent you from being hit by a car, it will give you some protection from serious injury to your head at least, if you are involved in a collision. Another very important thing is not to be distracted. It is vital that you are totally aware of your surroundings at all times, so do not listen to music or use a cell phone while you are riding your bicycle.

You should always follow the law of the road and do not assume that because you are on a bicycle that you are outside of the law. Bicyclists are not allowed to go through red lights just as cars should not.
